Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico (June 29th., 2007) - Las Palomas Beach and Golf Resort will break ground on its stellar, 34,000 square-foot spa this month. Opening in early 2008, The Las Palomas Spa, set to become Mexico’s premier spa destination, will be the largest and most luxurious haven for wellness in all of Puerto Peñasco.
Boasting 20 treatment rooms, six of which will offer in-room Jacuzzis, the spa will be outfitted with a sauna, steam room, a wet room with Vichy shower and a Janzu water massage room as well as a beauty salon and boutique. Using natural materials such as stone, marble, agate, wood, cantera stone and Mexican handicrafts, the Las Palomas Spa Resort will have the feel of a contemporary Mexican hacienda. The Spa treatment menu also will incorporate indigenous local treatments where guests can partake of a bit of Mexican Culture, while being pampered and attended by professional therapists who are true body artisans.
“Similar to the world’s best spas, our vision for Las Palomas Spa Resort is to make it a destination unto itself. We want it to be one-of-a-kind and incomparable in Mexico and the world,” says resort Managing Director Fernando Rossette. “In designing the spa we took our inspiration from not only the breathtaking desert landscape of Sonora but also the crystalline waters of the Sea of Cortez. We made every effort to draw from these environments to ensure that our guests experience a haven of relaxation evocative of this unique place.”
Part of the strategy to make Las Palomas Spa Resort a world-class destination was to hire internationally lauded spa consultant Diane Mestre to conceptualize the design and treatment.

Las Palomas Beach & Golf Resort's Spa Philosophy. As the Owner and Managing Director of Pro-Spa International, Mestre has been involved in the design and operations of more than 40 spa projects in Latin America, including some of the region’s most celebrated projects such as the spas at the Grand Velas All Suites Resort and Spa in Nuevo Vallarta, the Ritz Carlton Cancun, the Capella Resorts in Punta Maroma and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, several Melia Resorts and the Eden Roc spa in Miami.
“I wanted Las Palomas Spa Resort to be a spa in the truest sense. ‘Salus per Acuam’, Latin for health through water, is our central theme and our tactic is to employ the latest in hydrotherapy while incorporating indigenous, Mexican ingredients such as chocolate, cactus extracts, maize and the mineral-rich, local mud in our treatments to create a cultural and sensory journey into wellness for our guests,” says Mestre.
As a complement to the spa’s indigenous, botanical treatments, it also will use two famed, European skin care lines. The first is the French Decleor® product line. Specializing in aromatherapy, Decleor® uses essential oils and plant extracts in its aroma-skincare treatments resulting in cutting-edge, rejuvenation of the face and body. The Las Palomas Spa Resort also will carry the Natura Bissé line of products from Spain. Natura Bissé’s highly-regarded, age-defying lines Tensolift and Diamond use powerful natural and synthetic peptides to activate cellular regeneration and produce younger-looking and more supple skin.
Spa guests will have access to all of its relaxation pools, sauna and steam rooms; however guests and residents who do not book specific treatments will have use of the spa’s amenities through the tentatively named “Water Journey” package. These guests will be assigned a locker, plush bath robe and slippers and will have unlimited day use of the spa’s towels, personal care amenities, snacks and wet facilities for a yet to be determined fee.
Las Palomas Spa Resort is scheduled to open its doors for business in early 2008.
